So, we now have around a third of the big bits of our tractor at our house.
What now?
Well, this is a tractor that was put in a barn after its engine block cracked. It was left there for around 30 years until the barn fell down around it, then it was dismantled so it could be taken away.
It is a little rusty to say the least.
These need to be brought back to rust free, bare metal. Not an easy task! HOW?
There are a few ways to get rusty metal back to shiny bare metal.
- Shot blasting, or sand blasting. – This will cost, and cost for each and every piece that needs cleaning.
- DIY Shot blasting. – Have you any idea just how much air it takes to sandblast a small piece of metal? You really need the kind of air compressor that you use to dig up roads, the kind you tow behind a lorry.
- Wire brush, sandpaper, wire brushy thing on a drill and lots of hard work.
There must be a better way.
To be continued… (See the next rusty instalment here.)
Your Ferguson restore looks like its coming along nice. My family and I have been in the farming industry since as far back as I can remember. We happen to have a TE20 sitting in the weeds. Maybe someday project.

If you were not so far away I would be going through your weeds to see what I could find. We are very much enjoying our restoration project, can’t wait until the spring has really sprung so we can get back on it properly.

It looks like you’re having a good time with it. The European Ferguson tractors a extremely difficult to find parts for around here. I might end up having to part it out rather than fixing it up because of that.

Bits for the T20 range are very available here. Most I think are even being made new for the hobbiest.

The American version is plentiful over here. But I got luck and I own the rare euro version. If there is anything you just absolutely cannot find for yours let me know.

Thanks.
Likewise, if you ever get around to doing yours.
